Since his arrival at Ifremer in 2012, he has maintained and developed environmental monitoring on several French sites next to oyster farms, within the framework of the ECOSCOPA network (maritime affairs, fisheries and aquaculture funding). Data from this network are regularly used in different types of studies (coastal climate anomaly, relationship with growth and mortality of bivalves, larval dispersal). In 2017, in close collaboration with the Villefranche Oceanography Laboratory, Sebastien implemented a SeaFET pH sensor in the bay of Brest. Building on this experience, he designed the French monitoring network for carbonate thanks to the CocoriCO2 project (EMFF, 2020-2022), whose objective was to obtain time series at high-frequency of the pH in the coastal environment at 13 sites. Callum Hudson (@Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University – Marine Climate Change Unit) Callum completed his MRes at the University of Plymouth, working with Dr. Ben Harvey (University of Tsukuba) to study the impacts of ocean acidification and typhoons on algal communities at a natural CO2 seep site. He is now a first-year PhD student in Okinawa, Japan, supervised by Dr. Harvey and Prof. Tim Ravasi. Callum plans to continue utilizing CO2 seeps and other natural analogues to study the impacts of global change on marine communities, such as the impacts of ocean acidification and warming on the ability of urchins to exert top-down control and prevent transitions to turfed-states.
