Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination
Initiated by Korea and Mexico, and supported by some 41 co-sponsors, Member States of UNESCO’s Executive Board adopted a “Global Call against Racism” in Autumn 2020, acknowledging the urgent need to provide impactful solutions to the alarming increase of racism and discrimination against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a response to this call UNESCO, in partnership with the Republic of Korea, will host the Global Forum Against Racism and Discrimination on the 22nd of March 2021, celebrating also the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination which is commemorated annually on the 21st of March.

The Forum will bring together Ministers, civil-society leaders, experts, and private sector partners to explore ways through which the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation on anti-racism can be met through the sciences, education, culture, and media and information. It will also serve as an opportunity to launch UNESCO’s ambitious new Roadmap Against Racism – mandated through the ‘Global Call against Racism’ – a multisectoral partnership to address the root causes of contemporary racism through the areas of UNESCO’s competence.
